Default 18 psi AEM tru boost controller

Hey guys I just picked up an AEM tru boost controller for my MAzdaspeed6, and I was wondering with turbo back exhaust and intake, would I be safe running 17 or 18 psi. I know the true boost has a sensor which will stop overboosting, but I was just curious if it was too much to push out of a stock turbo with stock tune.

start at 17 and do some datalogs and if everything is good then go 18. You have a fuel pump? if so you will most likely be good to go

I actually don't have an aftermarket one, but I was looking at the cp-e pump, but didn't really realized it was needed for this. I actually only bought the AEM casue my friend took it off his srt-4, and I was wondering do you think the gains would be worth it? I can't imagine them being that huge, and if they're not really worth the risk then I can always just sell the AEM. Any opinions? What I did like was that it had the sensor that prevents overboosting.

I've been doing it with my 3 for months. Just work your way up.

You're going to need a MAP clamp or use what I did.

Oh cool. Sorry to sound dumb, but whats an MAP clamp, and what other engine mods are you running? Do you still have the stock fuel pump? Are you running the AEM tru boost, and if so how much of an increase have you seen in numbers?

you gotta do some research man. As far as the fuel pump goes every car is different and it's a case by case basis. some people can run 18psi and their car is fine no cutting or anything. Other cars hit 18psi and their fuel pump cant keep up or they get cutting problems from the high boost levels.
A map clamp is basically a way of clamping the voltage on you cars map sensor so the ecu cant see all the air thats flowing, so it wont induce a power cut. However if you get a map clamp and your turning the boost up you may want yet another gauge to watch your AFR's.

Oh ok that makes sense. I know I need to do more research. I was just looking to see if it was worth doing, or if it was just better to sell it. I really like the gauge, and I know that you can't just usually put more boost into your car unless you add other modifications to support it, but I just wanted to see if people thought it was worth doing, or if it would be to much of a risk.
