Default DIY FMIC

I know a few people have made their own fmic. i am going to do the same but looking for someone who has done it on a speed 3 and has a list that they used to make my shopping easier( ie: how much piping/couplers/certain bends) anything will help. Or if someone can point me to a thread that has this info that would be dope.

A few of us have done air/water intercoolers, but the only DIY FMIC I've seen on here was a MS6, not MS3.

I am in the process of making up my own cooler setup, and also inlet aswell. I have the core mounted, and the hot side piping all done, just need to finnish off the cold side now. Just waiting on my BOV and then i can finnish it. Just finnished a custom MAF housing today for the inlet, have not done any logs as yet but all the AFR's seem to be similar to stock, and there is no drop in idle or lights showing up on the dash. Time will tell once i log a few runs.

From memory, material is listed below, please note my memory is not the best tho...
Alloy bends

1x 2.25" 1m section
6x 2.25" 90deg
2x 2.25 45deg
1x 2.25 25deg (may be 35, cannot remember exact)

Silicon
1x 2-2.25" 90deg transition (for turbo outlet)
2x 2.25 90deg (off cooler inlet & outlet)
2.5-2.75" reducer (for TB, will have to flare the alloy pipe up to suit, could not get 2.25")
1x 2.25 straigh length

I will try and get some pics up for you too. Def make your own if you have the time. Its an easier decision for us guys in Aus as it costs an arm and a leg to get one of the ready made kits from over your way. Also gives you a good feeling of doing it all yourself. It has cost me so far less than 1/2 the price of buying a kit. Hardest thing is finding the time to do it on your daily like im doing while woking 5-6 days a week.

Here's a thread with some pics of what my air/water looks like for the most part. I never posted finished pics because I've changed a few things in/out just trying different stuff before I finalize it. Heck, I even purchased a used Cork Sport ram air box to replace my own custom short ram inlet just to see if it's worth it or not...

Im just finnishing off the cold pipe now, should be welded up in the next week or so, also started on a air box to cover the filter. Once the piping is all welded up and brakets are done i will throw up some full pics.

I plan on running it for a few weeks once done to check for leaks and log the setup a bit then if all is good it will be pulled off and heat treated to keep under bonnet temps down.

Is all being done in matt black, keeping it all looking stock-ish lol. Cant wait till its all done.

quick question for you, are your rims painted dark shadow gold?? Looks great. Was planning on powder coating mine black, i have a black 3 too.

bnoon, after looking at your setup, it will be interesting to see how you incorporate that corksport airbox.

Yeah, I'll have to reroute the piping... and while I'm doing that, I'll swap out to a 4.5" x 9" wide core too (from a 4.5" x 4.5" core now). Win-win. I just won't be running one of my own short rams any more, LOL!

A friend of mine is giving me his stock Evo9 FMIC core, so I just have to get piping made. Unfortunately I havent found any threads pertaining to the subject (or if it even fits).

So its just a pipe dream (pun intended) until it gets warmer out and I drop the bumper.
