Oil smelled like fuel? Not good man. The only solution is to run w/o any oil and let the gasoline lube the engine on it's own--slippery stuff.

Oh, man, where to begin? More info, please. How long have you had this car? What other mods does it have? Please tell me you have NOT been running a catless dp without upgraded fuel pump internals and a proper tune.

Houston, we have a problem.

FYI - This kind of post (Questions from an obviously uninformed Mazdaspeed owner) tends to attract a lot of bashing. I'll try to offer you some help, but you will really do yourself a favor if you spend several hours reading through the sticky threads at the top of various sub-forums here and searching for topics if you still have more questions.
  • Downpipe
The previous owner didn't do you any favors by installing this. Assuming that the requisite supporting modifications have not been installed and tuning has not been performed, there's a good chance that this has caused engine damage.
  • Fuel in Oil
This is a bad symptom. It could be a sign of various problems (piston ring damage, injector seal leak, PCV system malfunction, HPFP malfunction, etc), or it could simply be that the oil change interval was too long, Direct Injection engines tend to end up with more fuel making its way into the oil compared to Port Injection engines.
Before worrying about this, I would do a relatively short oil change interval, 1000-1500 miles, and then see how the oil looks/smells or better yet pay the $25 for an oil analysis so you know for sure how much fuel is present ( Blackstone Labs )
  • Suggestions
Buy an oil analysis - $25
    Buy a Cobb Accessport - $200(used) - $$650(new) - Don't load any maps.
Buy an e-tuning service from one of the many reputable tuners here on MSF - ~$150-$300
The tuner can likely determine based on log data and the oil analysis if there are any mechanical issues which need to be addressed.
