Default Official BNR S3v2 bonanza thread

To keep all of the install/pics/advice/turbo-pr0ns in one place together. Many folks have received their orders, so lets do this! I'll keep this post updated the best I can.

How-to on fixing the WG flapper if you are unable to return it to BNR for service:
New BNRS3 Housing

Resource related links:
BNR S3 Swap How To
Freeks BNR install

Parts related links:
http://www.hitunedperformance.com/5-...extension-kit/
http://www.stratifiedauto.com/index....roducts_id=217

Lessons Learned:
CONSIDER USE OF GUARDIAN ANGEL TO COMBAT BOOST CREEP
1. The turbo inlet is 2.46", plan accordingly with your coupler
2. The coolant line supplied may likely still require some bending
3. The turbo inlet is ~3/8 to 1/2 inch nearer to the driver's side fender than the K04, causing alignment issues for intakes with mounting brackets and less room to squeeze past the ECU harness.
4. A heater core hose extension is still recommended. There's a kit for $10 + shipping here or you can source your own 5/8" hose and couplers.
5. Confirmed fitment of HTP OE to 3.5" coupler will fit inlet.
6. Wastegate flapper could have issues binding when turbo heats up thus making controlling boost impossible. Bryan @ BNR has contacted all recipients of the new S3v2 in order to have them return the units for inspection.
7. Units can come in two configurations. 2 port WGA with a restricted compressor tap for boost source (like a stock K04). 1 port WGA with an unrestricted compressor tap for boost source. Bryan has stated the former configuration will be discontinued.

Successful Installations: @Jonathanhair07; @kornybun; @SneakySin; @onetechyguy;

Failed Installations: @JgamB; - Wastegate / Boost creep @JTMS3; - Wastegate / Boost creep @XLT_66; - Wastegate / Boost creep

Unknown / Not installed: @starscream; @neganox; @HawkeyeGeoff; @specvspeedfreak; @Mike@Stratified; @john.e.stoner; @xliquidx; @dale_gribble; @BackRoads;
Code Monkey and ItsNox like this.

May as well start compiling a list of stuff we've learned thus far, and then I'll dig up the old BNR how-to threads for linkage.

Not sure if the MSF wiki is ready for primetime, but perhaps we should keep all of this info there as well.

This is interesting. Ive got the bnrs3 v2 on order and was only aware of the coupler having to change. I wasnt told anything about step 4. Im still somewhat worried about step 3 cause my CS tip is already pretty much rubbing against everything else.

I know the bnrs3 turbo inlet is bigger then the k04 but what is the size on the intercooler side? Will we need a different coupler on that as well?

Got my BNR S3 v2 in and went in without hitch surprisingly! Running 3 port mode on this thing makes it creep really fast so be aware!! I was seeing 27psi and 1/4 to 1/2 throttle so watch out for overboost. 2 port mode works like a charm though. So far I'm just on a base tune but this is the turbo that should've came from the factory. Absolutely love it. Spools pretty damn loud too with metal 3 inch intake. We did have to relocate the ECU to the front of the battery box to make everything fit. Just waiting to hear back from @Justin@Freektune; so we can get on with our tuning now that its finally in

You should have no problem running a 3 port in interrupt mode. Either it was hooked up incorrectly or there was too much wgdc in the basemap. Plenty of people have run bnr's with 3 ports.

Supposedly changes were made to the wastegate on the v2 so that may be causing the issue. I could be wrong but so far I can confirm its been an issue for at least one other vehicle other than mine as far as the v2 goes.

The Wastegate port was enlarged on the new exhaust housings this is to mitigate boost creep. More exhaust gas can flow out of the iwg port now. The only thing that i could think of that would have an effect on boost control would be the restrictor on the compressor nipple, but i still have the restrictor installed on my k04 and have no problem at all controlling boost.

@SneakySin; How did you have your 3port run? I currently have my k04 with one wastegate actuator port blocked, the compressor housing blocked, and the line running to the bpv tee'd into for a boost source instead.

Idk man, I'm just sharing the 2 fails I've seen personally. If someone else can get it to work, more power to them. Just letting people know be aware of the responses I've been seeing

Port 1 to wastegate (other wastegate port blocked)
Port 2 to inlet
Port 3 to Compressor

Thats your problem it was hooked up incorrectly. You were sending the pressure your wastegate was supposed to see into your intake so your wastegate just stayed shut and you saw max boost.

That makes no sense to me. I think folks need to be mindful running a 3-port and blocking one of the actuator inlets. Rubber vacuum caps aren't going to hold up well there. Those HELP vacuum caps aren't rated for 25psi not even considering the heat of a turbo. On my 3-port I actually ran about 6" of vacuum hose off of the inlet I wanted to block to an NPT adapter + NPT metal blockoff cap. No way that is leaking on me.

I just can't see boosting to 27psi off WOT without something being setup incorrectly; either mechanically or in the tune (WG too high). It doesn't make sense.

For anyone running a 3-port, I recommend doing what I did and dialing the 3-port in on your k04 first so you have one less thing to worry about when you switch over the turbo. Try to change 1 thing at a time. Change your MAP sensor, then run for a week. Then, change your EBCS and run for a week. Then put in turbo. When you change 3-4 things at once, you're gonna have a bad time.

look at my post above your's he had it installed incorrectly. he sent me his basemap and it only had 10% wgdc across the board. Installer error not a tune, wga,or ebcs problem.

My real only concern at this point... is fitting a 3inch intake with the stock battery and ECU in place. Seems like with the new BNRs3v2 theres no way to do that since it pushes the intake MORE over to the driver side.

As far as I know, that's not feasible. But I've been wrong in this thread once already lol

LOL no worries, part of learning. As long as we got it corrected and you manned up.
I think what I am going to do is try 1 of 2 things first before complete relocation

1) try to see if I can 'oval' the pipe that would normally touch the ECU to see if I can create some more room

2) see if I can shift the ECU up enough that it stays relatively stock location but allow enough room for the intake.

No idea if any of that would work, but I'll see if there is a way. Part of the problem is theres not enough new BNRs3v2s out.

Probably would be best for someone to take a pic of their engine bay and use MS paint or some shit to trace and color code the vacuum lines to the EBCS so no one has a bad day. I'll be putting mine in Saturday, so I'll do it then if no one else does it prior.

Just relocate to the top of the fuse box. Lots of people in terMINATOR are running this already. No problems. Just ask our resident tool master/creator @maisonvi;

@SneakySin; Is your 3 port working correctly even with the compressor housing's restrictor pill now that its hooked up in the right configuration?
@JgamB; http://stratifiedauto.com/images/3P%...upt%20Mode.png This is for the stratified one. I think they all use the same MAC solenoid.

Stratified from what i can tell uses the Humphrey solenoid (same as me). I'm using a 3port with the k04 restrictor in place. I don't see why it would be an issue. also the humphrey 3 port solenoid hook up is different from the mac.

Cobbs 3 Port is DEFINITELY a MAC. I use the same solenoid to make them for people.

I'm still running 2 port mode. Freek says either way is fine, wont matter. With the BNR will still make the same power regardless so i just left it in 2 port mode until i see a reason to switch back. I explained to him I definitely dont want to leave power on the table due to this and he assured me it wont matter either way

So i'm thinking here. Why not use the two ports on the WG Actuator?

There must be a reason why there's two on there instead of one.

Edit: No actually this will not work and makes no sense...but why two fucking WG Actuator Plugs.....
