i sent an email to brian yesterday about stage 3 since mine started smoking:

Hey Michael.

The stage 3 won't be released for a long while. I have other projects to complete before I have a batch of 2871 wheels custom made. It will take some time before I can focus on the stage 3 for the MS cars. The stage 2 is available. Let me know if you have any questions!

sucks about your turbo smoking bro.. go with stage 2 while you can.. im sure you can re-coop most of your money by selling the stage 2 turbo once the 3's are out..

ok so what exactly needs to be changed...ive heard everyone saying it is a direct bolt up but many have been changing their manifolds...is that necessary or are you just doing it while you are in there?....or (if you wanted) could you run everything you already have?

i see these as being great because all of the supporting mods that fit the k04 (DP, inlet, intake (set up for stock turbo)) will connect right up to these hybrids...or am i wrong?

so it isnt necessary it is just a good thing to do

i could run it completely stock

all supporting mods that fit the k04 will fit these hybrids


great...really i would pay the extra money to save the headache...plus i wont have to re buy my mods for the bigger turbo

Exaclty. Granted, added a DP and TM at the time of the install is the best way to go, but if you're on a budget you can run it on stock parts.

i thought the stg2 and stg3 turbos have the 3" inlet, so you'd have to get cp-e's bigger inlet aka whale penis.. or am i wrong?

Stage 2 and 3 come with a 2.5" inlet so you'd need a coupler based TIP/SRI.

CPE big turbo connection for the nvicid is 4 in. anyway

if you have a the SRI right now when you orded the nvicid you would just pick stock turbo flange and 3 in. intake

When I spoke with Bryan, he said that he could machine the stage 2 inlet to any size that you wanted (stock or larger). I'd ask him about your particulars. He answers emails quickly...

I gotta talk to bryan bout the inlet size, it seems that a larger one would be better, and get a reducer and cut my cobb tip down to size.

Glad to see these turbos are gettin more posts, I think where are goin to see some nice #'s in the near furure

Yeah...cant wait...just got a email from Bryan..and he said prabaly another couple months..Hes a busy guy....Im trying to decide on the stage 3 or go 3071. Im stock internals and honestly 350-370 whp would be perfect for my car.

I've also been keeping an eye on these turbo's. The stage 2 looks great. Maybe i can hold off until stage 3 comes out.

It's nice to know he can machine the inlet to whatever size!

i would figure you would have him take it just 3" am i right?

i dont really see the point in having a full 3" intake (like what you get with a nano and nvicid) but still restrict it down to 2.5" at the turbo

well comparing it to the other sst's they're quite a bit more expensive. you can also get the atp turbos that apparently do not have boost creep issues anymore for a couple hundred more. these seem to be another step between sst's and bt's - hopefully they perform well, they do look promising! i unfortunately never had the chance to push my sst, just when i was ready to turn up the boost it crapped out on me.

These really don't compare to the SST or other KO4 rebuilds.

These should be compared to a GT28, except that they are plug and play and much cheaper.

yes, that's why i said they were a step above the sst's and other k04 rebuilds... but how much is a stage 3 going to cost? probably not that much cheaper than a plug and play atp 2871r, especially if you get one on here or from a vendor. i'm not hating on these, i'm curious how good they will be, but i don't really see these as being a great deal right now.

Basically, the whole turbo is made from parts that are already proven for decades. The CHRA is the original disco-potato unit (do a web search) that does NOT leak/smoke and the compressor wheels are standard parts right from Garrett. The compressor housings are from the old RX-7 version turbo and the turbine housing are OEM K04, so the only thing special about the BNR turbos is the combination of proven parts, the absolute OEM plug & play, and the capacity to produce seriously more (2871 ATP levels) power with NO hassles for less $$$.

I'll hit the dyno when I get around to installing my Stage 3 with the 2871 compressor side.

No, when Bryan announced the Stage 3 version and he only had two of the 2871 compressor wheels for the stage 3 version I jumped on it immediately and someone else got the other one. So there are two of the stage 3 versions until Bryan can get more compressor wheels. According to him, Garrett has stopped selling the parts, so....

Forzda, what are u going to do about tuning, are u going to get a dyno/custom tune, e-tune, or are u going to tune urself via ATR?

I dont have my turbo yet, but just trying to plan ahead. I wan to run my Grimmspeed EBCS(not installed yet) with my BNR and I got a feeling that this is going to exceed MY ability to tune w/ ATR. (can handle basics FT, TRL's ect)

Just curious on t he route ur going, thanks

I'm definitely doing a self-tune via ATR until I like it... then check it on a dyno to see what it makes. I'll pass on any "new" info that may come from it as well.
