Default JMEngineer's Build

The story behind the build (aka the tl;dr;nce section):

This car was originally supposed to be my DD that would be left completely stock or maybe get a couple Mazdaspeed parts that wouldn't void my warranty... I think it took about 4 days before I ordered an AEM CAI and an AP, and an ETS TMIC followed shortly after that.

I had also planned to keep living somewhat like a poor college student after graduation and get my loans paid off in a year or two. That still would have given me a decent 'toys' budget but, just like leaving the MS6 stock, I didn't follow through with that plan.

After buying a new house, getting engaged, finishing school, and starting a year-round full time job with regular hours, I decided to just make minimum payments on my student loans (no reason to pay more when the interest rates are only 2-4%) and use the extra money to buy a bunch of toys while I'm still young and can enjoy them. Sure I could save my whole life and live like a king when I retire, but with my addiction to speed and all the other dangerous things I enjoy I probably wouldn't live long enough anyway.

I decided I like this car enough to keep it for a long time and dump a bunch of money into it so I'm planning to go all out eventually but I'm doing it in phases. Phase 1 was originally going to be a 3076 setup with full supporting mods including a built block. I have all the parts to do that but I'm gonna see what the stock block can handle first.

I started collecting parts and bought a Mitsubishi Montero Sport to use as a DD while the 6 is in pieces over a year ago. I never expected it to take this long for all the parts to come in and to get my friend to fix the Montero - he sold it to me dirt cheap because it needed a few things and he offered to install all the new parts after I bought them because he already had it in pieces in his garage.. then he forgot which fuel lines go where and we had a lot of trouble tracking down a service manual.


The Montero is finally a couple hours of work away from running and I have all the parts I need so it looks like I'm finally ready to start Phase 1 of my build...






THE GOOD STUFF:
This is the plan for now but I'm sure a few things will change

Phase 1 Main Parts:
Steedspeed twin scroll top mount manifold
Twin TiAL MV-S water-cooled wastegates
GT3076R - .78A/R divided T3 V-Band turbine housing, 4" anti-surge compressor housing
Djuosnteisn intake and downpipe
Treadstone TR1035 intercooler


Phase 2:
Built block
-stock bore
-CP pistons (.5 CR lower to run higher boost)
-Pauter rods
-DCR cam timing thingy
ACT 6-puck clutch (I might sell this and go with a twin disc to make sure it lasts)
ACT flywheel (say what you want, I like the feel of cars with light flywheels so nce)
Upgraded Axles
PAR Engineering custom gearset
Meth


Phase 2.5:
GTX35R


Phase 3:
Upgraded head
-stiffer valve springs
-full port/polish
-cams
Custom intake manifold with secondary injection
Big brakes
Even bigger turbo?


Other plans along the way:
Look into crankshaft options to destroke to 2.0L and significantly raise redline
Carbon driveshaft
KW V2 coilovers
Chassis bracing (bolt-on or welded)
Recaro seats

Good stuff! Phase 1 does look quite familiar, haha. I still need to up grade my fmic :/ Looking forward to the progress.

I would recommend adding a meth kit to install during phase 1. GL with build!

EDIT: This turbo spools silly quick for a BT. I've haven't gotten anywhere near pushing this turbo, but I kinda wish I gt35r. On the dyno in 4th, he went wot at like 2K, and I was at my wg spring (16psi) at 3116 rpms with no ebcs. Hits the same @ 3340rpms in 3rd. That's pretty quick spool imo... I wish someone around here had a ts gt35r that I could check out to see if there's any noticeable lag. twin scroll ftw! I'd definitely try a larger hot side down the road, but mind you, I am VERY happy with the way the car drives, spools, etc. Zero complaints . You will be psyched!!

I'm probably going to replace at least 1-4 and the final drives. I may go straight cut 1-4 if that makes sense but I need to look into it more.

I'll be able to knock out the intercooler in a couple hours - I have all the piping bends I could need and I have my own bead roller for anything that needs to be trimmed.
I went for a ride in Joel's car last weekend which I think has the same turbo we do and it was a beast.. It's exactly what I wanted for Phase 1
