Smile Little Decisions for the Big Turbo... need some help

Getting ever closer to pulling the trigger on an ATP 3076R, and the funds will be here when I get back from Aruba a week from Friday . A big deciding factor was that my plates are up for renewal, and "GT3076" is available . So, I've decided to go ewg for sure, and have the dump tube welded. I have some homework to do for the ewg because I know ZERO about them. I'm running a Perrin with the current iwg set up (and will with the BT)... I'm wondering about the spring rate. Is 14PSI the lowest spring rate you can run with the 76? I'm wondering because I'd like to keep the spring rate as low as possible for the meth failsafes to be useful. I'd prefer it to cut to 10 PSI for spring pressure, but not sure if that is feasible. Not 100% on the what boost I plan on running... probably 20 PSI.

Also, I've been off the grid for quit some time, so I've forgotten a lot of shit, and I never did all the BT research yet, as it was more of a pipe dream. I'll be back in it 100% when I get back though, and would appreciate any advice.

Do you guys think the CPE FMIC is alright for now? A nice 2.5" custom w/ giant core would be nice, but I have no where to work on this fucking car, and I'm sick of it. I'm going to have the turbo installed, and getting a pro-tune w/ two maps (meth/non). I would have liked to do the BT install with people but it's too difficult trying to find people/garage/time/etc... I'd rather just pay.

Oh, and I need to find a tuner. I'm in Boston, but I would be willing to drive damn far to go with someone I feel comfortable with, and that is happy to discuss how he's going to approach the tune, etc. I don't feel comfortable with someone saying "Smitty is the man" and then Smitty all secretive about it and I'm picking up engine parts off the highway a week later.

I also gotta figure out what I want to do for an inlet... I hear good things in the past about the CPE 4" one. Not sure what to do about a SRI either. I know a lot of people go custom... time to scrounge the FS threads perhaps. I'm not 100% on this yet, but wouldn't be making this post if I weren't damn close.

quick question.....when u say 3076r atp.... u mean it comes with a larger tan iwg turbine or u plan on welding the flapper shut?? cuz if u do the latter ill kick u in the balls

Not sure yet. I was looking into it a bit last year, but it wasn't feasible $ wise, and I'm just getting back to this now. I followed your BT thread for awhile way back when (before site crashed). The boost creep with the iwgs, and then the newer ones (like yours) were machined, but still not quite right and problematic is what steered me away from the iwg altogether. Like I said in the OP, I know nothing about ewg set ups. I'll read up more on them soon... I'm packing right now, and leaving on Friday.

I'm not welding a damn thing. I'm through working on this car... I have a good welder though.

are u getting an ATP 3076r with this??? Externally Wastgated Turbine Housing for Mazdspeed 3/6/CX7 - GT3071R/GT3076R : atpturbo.com


im asking cuz i seen a few people weld the iwg and go ewg....and that means the turbine is still a lil pos.... thats why i am asking. cuz i dont see the point in going with a small turbine if u gonna go ewg.... only reason i would ever see for owning an ATP is like my case...everything stays stock around the turbo

I don't know yet... this is the kind of shit I need to figure out. I'm not trying to max shit out and I don't give a shit about a dyno queen. I figure my fmic will probably be the choke point, and I'm not upgrading that either. I do need stock friendly around the turbo. I have a CPE DP that STILL hasn't been installed yet (no help/no garage)... I said fuck it, let me think over the BT before paying to just install a DP. I don't think the CPE DP is compatible with the T3's 3076s? I'm going off memory here from 6 months ago, 2 less ounces of weed in my head, and at least a half dozen handles of rum less so bear with me.

EDIT: Also, the cheaper the better. If it starts getting too $$$$$ I'm not doing it.

douge you needa figure out of that new EWG housing will actually fit the MVs EWG properly. this would save you LOTS of money and fab time of having an EWG runner welded to your mani.

I need to figure out a lot of shit... with my BT ignorant ass. I'm more worried about finding a tuner I can trust. The mechanical stuff will be figured out soon enough with some research and help/dumbing down from you guys. Some fear the reaper... I fear the tuner.

BUMP. I just got back and got the finances figured out. The 3076 IS A GO!! I've been waiting for this shit for 2 years now, so I'm definitely pumped. Wifi down in Aruba was slower than DSL, so needless to say, I wasn't online much at all, and I didn't have a chance to do any research in the meantime.

However, it's time to play catch up as I want to figure out the best parts for me, and source them as quickly & cheaply as possible, and have the stuff installed, get pro-tuned, and get back to my studies .

I'll let you know for sure what I end up going with and if I find any deals. Skates said you can save some bucks on the Tial wg. If I can save a couple hundred here or there, I'm all for it. That's part of the reason why I'm recycling the CPE FMIC... sure 2.5" pipes are better, but there's another $400-500 for a custom, plus labor, etc.... not happening right now.

Ah, sucky about the CP-e kit being less than 2.5". I'm running TurboXS and it's 2.5 all around.

I'm super pumped about the power you'll make with a 3076, though. Ballin.

I have the t3 gt3076. Tial ewg. Steedspeed mani. V band dp. Cpe inlet with Cobb intake. Its great. If ur not looking for huge numbers i would go 3071 just for the reduce in spool time. My .02.

Yeah it does, lol. If figure if I ever get super motivated, I'll do a nice custom 2.5" with a huge core, and do a proper blow thru maf set up while I'm at it. Once the CPA is done, I"ll consider it.

Nice. I'm going w/ the CPE inlet, and the Cobb intake I have for now as well, 38mm tial. I need to ring APT about this new ewg housing to ensure fitment, etc.. and see if I can work a deal (thanks Ant). Also, I'm wondering if the newer GTX turbos will fit that housing, or if that is a waste?

As for the lag... I much prefer it. It keeps the load off of rods at lower rpms without even thinking about it, and you can always bump redline to 7K with NP. Plus, I've driven SuperSkate's 3076 so I know exactly what it is like, and he can attest to the fact that I didn't hit the rev limiter once, thank you very much!! But that's only because he told me you'll bounce off it in 2 seconds once she spools, and he wasn't kidding. Plus, I was watching the tach, not the road the whole time, and that helped too! hahaha Plus the 76
gives me little room to grow if I decide to upgrade the fmic, run more boost, etc.

I didn't know that :/. It really sucks when you're looking to buy used CPA review shit, and it still costs over $1,000 on eBay. I would so much rather be putting the turbo and supporting mods in my cart. Be glad you don't have abortion purchases like mine at least that cost over $1K that will give you a migraine for the next 6 months. I'm not sure if I'm talking about the turbo or the review materials, but fuck, that shit is expen$ive either way!
