Default Would anyone be interested in a JMF Turbo Kit?

Hi guys,

I just recently purchased another speed 3 after blowing my motor several years ago in my old one and parting out. I am going to be building the motor and going big turbo asap. I know there are some options on the market for turbo kits and the such but I am very local to JMF and drool over the quality of their fabrication work. I contacted Jim the owner today and discussed a possible custom kit with a Borg Warner EFR series turbo. I would be fully paying for this and wanted to see if anyone else would like to see JMF turn my custom kit into an available kit on the market. Jim said he could make up a jig if there was enough interest. So let me know what you all would like to see and I will discuss the ideas with him when we meet next week. Im hoping to get my car to him for the entire winter. Thanks guys!

If it's more plug and play then the full race efr kit I'm sure it would sell. Would jmf make an exhaust manifold as well as a Downpipe to mate with the turbo?

It would sell depending on the price, he doesn't have much competition.

What's affordable in your eyes to the point you would buy it? Just curious.

I would say $4000 would be respectable.

$1500 for turbo
$500 for downpipe
$800 for exhaust manifold
$250 for intake/tip
$700 for intake manifold
boom jmf efr kit

The quality and fitment of a jmf kit I'm sure would be superior to anything on the market. I'd have to talk to Jim about price. Is there a different brand turbo you guys would like to see to cut back on costs? I know the Borg Warner efr series turbos are decently expensive. I was thinking the kit would include turbo manifold, turbo, down pipe, dump pipe, 4 inch inlet / intake and all of the hardware and lines needed to install it. Only other thing I was pondering was maybe a top mount turbo kit option.

Also if you guys would rather see another turbo manifold option then I can prolly talk to him about that as well. He could focus on making a jig for a turbo manifold to fit an assortment of turbos for our car.

Sounds pretty cool. I'm going BT next year and if this is around I'd probably go JMF. I've heard so much great things about his product and plus the intake mani with the SP63 PI, the gains from this kit are limited by the turbo you pick pretty much.
Subbed.

Biggest sellers would probably be v band and EFR setups.

I'm going to try contacting j barone about purchasing one of his intakes to use in my setup and possibly a JMF kit. What Borg Warner EFR turbo would everyone like to see? 400-600whp range maybe?

There are two major options on the EFR's. The T3 frame turbos and the T4's. Make sure the kit fits the T4's and the T3's won't need much to make them work.

Great to know! Thanks so much. Any suggestions like this help a lot. I'd really like to see a company like JMF with top quality and customer service really get involved with our cars.

That's an excellent idea to incorporate JBR's intakes on the kit! Why add the cost of additional R&D for an intake when JBR already has a proven product? It makes sense.

Depends on the turbo.

Just for the heck of it I would contact both HTP & JBR. I prefer the HTP intake myself but no reason that they both couldn't potentially "bid" to be a supplier if JMF were open to this option.

Are both intakes close enough in design that we could make them both work? I'd be willing to buy one of each to do test fitments.

Why not look into something like a Precision turbo? Their 6262 turbo is pretty popular and comes in t3 or t4 flanges and capable of 700hp depending on the housings you choose. They are priced well under that $1500 estimate as well.

I just got a quote from full-race last week and the price for the 6578 was $1450 and the 7163 was $1750. They build the borg warner EFR's in house.

Also the EFR turbos use a 2.5" inlet from the intake side but that doesn't mean we can't use a 3.5-4.0 intake as our MAF max's out with the smaller intakes if we want to push to make higher HP. And another thing the efr turbos have internal wastegates and internal bpv so there is another $500-$700 in cost savings from having to buy those separately and also no need for a dump tube either.

I'd love to see someone else offer an EFR kit for us, but I'd be willing to bet the real money for JMF would be in exhaust manifolds.

Look at how many kits Full Race has sold, vs. manifolds... and that's only stock flange. First company that offers T3/T4/ TS T4 is going to need a dumptruck to carry all the money.

So you guys would rather see the focus on a nice turbo manifold with T3/T4 , T4 Twin scroll and v band flange options. Only thing is you would most likely need a custom down pipe if you go this route wouldn't you?

most speed 6's have a v band downpipe. v band to 4 bolt/5 bolt adapaters are easy to come by. Who cares about ms3 folk.

Ehh, just make it a top mount manifold. Better for DP routing as well. Nobody really makes an off the shelf top mount solution but it would be bad ass.

Top mount would solve just about all the fitment issues (while creating a potential compressor outlet/valve cover issue); intake, battery tray and downpipe issues are largely taken care of.

All it would take would be a manifold and a MS6 style DP with a short Vband section coming off the turbine to give people a big turbo starter's kit. The Vband section could be easily lengthened/shortened/ have the flange changed on one end to accommodate different turbos.

Just had another thought; just clock the turbo to run the hotpipe under the engine like @NJSPEED3; has done; that would solve any valve cover issues
ABolewski likes this.

Since everyone wants to run before they can walk I think JMF should just build the manifold to be a forward facing kit

Default Update

So a small update for you all.

I ordered a precision 6262 vband turbo for my build. Along with it I ordered the htp 4" intake, tr8 core with Cobb piping and cpe catback. Jmf is going to be fabricating the vband manifold and vband down pipe. Jim said he would like to make a hot parts kit while my car is there so that's some good news

They should fix the runner angle on their intake manifold first, before they worry too much about anything else.

I vote PTE turbos. Tons of options. Have him make both t25, t3 and t4 flanged Manis you can fit a 6266 between the block and firewall. They also have some impressive smaller turbos for guys that are looking more for autocross and track work not raw power
