Hey Freek, do you have rates when it comes to an engine build?

@Justin@Freektune; We both know my car will need to be rebuilt (still runs reliably, just slow). I've been flirting with Speedperformance's Stage 1 since I DD my car and average 120 miles a day. Several people have mentioned asking you about what you would charge, but I know you're usually swamped with work as it is. @Zdraveca; is also needing a build and saving up money. So do you have any established rate? Or should I stick with Speedperformance?

Shawn@Freektune 03-05-2016 09:47 PM

@Zdraveca;

Shoot me a PM also

Cheapspeed 12-28-2016 09:29 AM

Bumping this super old thread because I spun a rod. I sent a PM the other night but no response. Also noticed the [MENTION=52038 @Shawn@Freektune; profile hasn't really been active. [MENTION=40777 @Justin@Freektune; are you still doing motor builds? Or can you refer me to solid engine builders?

There was a thread where a few guy were saying not to go with speedperformance and there was I think a NATOR guy that was building reliable motors.

I've been searching all morning to find the discussion I had read a while back but it's buried somewhere in somebody's build thread. That might be who they were talking about.

Code Monkey 12-28-2016 10:27 AM

Justin is not taking on any further engine builds, he sends his all motor inquires to EBTEC in GA.

PhillyCheese 12-28-2016 04:20 PM

He recommended FJ Performance a few months ago also. Still haven't got mine done though

What are you having done?

Djohns 12-29-2016 07:30 AM

@WetzMS3; builds motors. Get in contact with him too, he knows his shit.

cshunter 12-29-2016 06:38 PM

+1 for Ebtec if you don't get one from Justin.
Several Nator Kentucky/Tennessee guys with motors from them.

Are any of those guys on here that can chime in on the work done, cost, turn around?

ko4_tony 12-31-2016 02:47 PM

I have to rebuild mine. I'm gonna take it apart and asses the damage. I can't fuck it up anymore than it already is so I figured if it's not bad I can do the work myself. I already did a couple motor tear downs and rebuilds so I feel like it should be good to try first. Regardless I already planned for the worst and saved up for a new motor from speedperformance.

Justin is no longer currently taking on any motor builds and has no set time frame of when he will be again. We at Freektune would recommend the boys down at EBtec for your build. You can get a hold of Chris Murphy or Jame Emmino over there and they will get you a quote going.

Going to be having them build me an engine with Manley rods/Pistons next year

shaneski 01-01-2017 06:34 PM

I may be wrong but i think the guy that was building the DISI engines at FJ left to start his own business.

Cheapspeed 01-03-2017 07:19 PM

Just sent EBTEC an e-mail, we'll see what they have to say. At worst I'll get the "Stage 1" Speed Performance motor. I want something that's easy to daily but more stout than the stock motor.

bostongeorge 01-04-2017 04:45 AM

@Cheapspeed; Don't quote me, but I think it was around 5k total. It would be less if you sent them the motor, less all the bolt on stuff. He drove the car down there, they pulled the motor, did the build, and he drove it back home. Only took a few days. The only issue he had was not starting a few weeks back but that was due to the powder coating on the valve cover near a sensor or something that got bent. I think it's sporting a 5858 now. But he said the guys at EBTEC were top notch and professional. Good luck.

Thor Hammer 01-04-2017 11:37 AM

What about Jordan Keefover at Overspeed Motorsports in New Orleans? I heard good things about his builds. Just curious.

Cheapspeed 01-04-2017 02:06 PM

I lived in New Orleans for a few years. Would be a good excuse to visit again.

Cheapspeed 01-05-2017 08:58 PM

Got my first quote from Kozmic. They're here in Texas, so a little closer to home.

Here's a link to keep all my build crap in one place.
